Meet My Main Character Blog Tour
Thanks to the lovely Ailsa Abraham for nominating me to take part in this. Ailsa's main character is a feisty one worth knowing (I know, I've read the books!). Check out Ailsa's post here.
What is the name of your main character? Is he/she a fictional or historic person?
Her name is Kaelia and she’s all fiction. I’d like to say she’s based a little on me but unfortunately I don’t have any of the powers she possesses and I doubt I’d be as brave as her if faced with fighting off hellhounds, undead Draugar, and people possessed by demons!
When and where is the story set?
Kaelia’s story is set in modern day, in this world although through her quest to find her mother, avenge the death of her father, and fight the evil Salloki (a hidden, evil gaggle made up of supernatural beings) takes her through realms of Norse myth - including the underworld realm belonging to the goddess Hel. Oh, and there’s a magical forest called Mortiswood which is home to lots of well, magical people and creatures! Plus The Salloki have their own, hidden realm of nasty. The part that is set in our world centres around not only Mortiswood but Thanet, my home district in the UK, where the beautiful beaches, Old Town, and parks lend themselves as backdrops. Kaelia grew up in Margate, in Thanet, and there are some big fighting scenes which take place there too.
What should we know about him/her?
She was a normal girl who grew up in Margate until power awakened within her. Within Kaelia’s family there was always one destined to be The One - someone who would develop magical ability and superhuman strength, someone who would have to rise up against The Salloki and stop them in their evil plan for taking control of all the realms, both human and mystical.
All Kaelia wanted to do was hang out with her best-friend-forever/love-of-her-life Bay but, according to her destiny, she has to find the one called Marrock in order to unleash her full magical potential. With Bay torn violently from life, Kaelia is forced to face up to the one thing she was trying to run away from. She must find Marrock, and fight The Salloki. Unfortunately for Kaelia, destiny’s a leech-like bitch that she can’t shake, no matter how much she wants to.
And she has this really amazing hair that I am jealous of, it’s coppery and fiery (not just metaphorically) and curly!
What is the main conflict/what messes up his/her life?
Having the power pretty much ensures Kaelia’s life is messed up for good! Because of it, her father is killed, her mother disappears, and her best friend is swept over the edge of a cliff! Not only does Kaelia have to fight off evil spirits and creatures, but she has to battle with her own self doubt to become both emotionally and physically
What is the personal goal of the character?
Once Kaelia found out she has extraordinary magical gifts and she’s set to defeat The Salloki (who want Kaelia to align with them in their evil plans), she’s wanted to discover who killed her father, and where her mother has disappeared to. In this book, which is the second in the Mortiswood Tales series, she will finally find some answers and begin to take actions in avenging the death of her father. Oh, and there’s the matter of who she loves . . . Bay, her one time childhood friend and teenage sweetheart that she sees only in her dreams, or Bran, the Necromancer whose dark power matches her light.
Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?
It will be called Mortiswood: Kaelia Falling and is Book Two of Mortiswood Tales. There’s no blurb or anything as of yet but the book is on Goodreads here.
When can we expect the book to be published?
Fingers crossed, it’ll be released in Autumn this year.

Here’s a sketch I drew of Kaelia, and the cover for the book . . .
Book One in the series, Mortiswood: Kaelia Awakening, can be found on Goodreads here (there’s a giveaway running over there for a signed paperback copy).

I'd like to pass the "Meet my main character" baton to any of my writer friends who'd like to pick it up! (If you do pick up the baton, let me know and I'll add your links to this post!).
