Briar Rose by Jana Oliver
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I'll admit the first thing that attracted to the book, was the cover. It's pretty, isn't it? Once I read the blurb I knew I wanted to read it - I love anything to do with fairy-tales. I entered the Goodreads giveaway and was very excited to win a copy! I think I counted the days until it arrived, eagerly awaiting the postman's knock! Anyway, I started it the day it was delivered. I enjoyed the beginning but found the middle section of the book to be the most enjoyable - this was when the pages turned quicker and I wanted to consume the story.
At first I wasn't sure if I would like the metal inclusion but, as the middle of the story progressed, I thought it worked well. Briar did develop and grow throughout the tale, it wasn't as if she started off weak - she didn't. I liked how, once in the curse, she remained loyal to the friend she made. I enjoyed the take on the Sleeping Beauty tale within Briar's curse and how the two interconnected in some ways. Once Briar returned from the curse and the story wound up, I found it enjoyable but, for me, the best part was definitely the middle section of the story.
The characters are interesting, the romance - touching, the adventure - entertaining, the imagery - well written. Would I recommend it? Yes.
